As summer loosens its grip, it's time to look forward to the change of season as autumn moves in. There’s no reason our homes shouldn’t undergo some changes, too.

Velvet offers a plush warmness that is unquestionably a fall staple. Whether you bring in a velvet-covered side chair, cover a pillow or two in the luxurious fabric, or a velvet throw to put on the couch, be sure to include this fall staple in your autumn decor.
Fall is the time to pull out your basket collection. Hang an assortment of shapes, colors and sizes on the wall or arrange them on a tabletop, filled with gourds or pinecones.
Chunky knits are all the rage this year. Look for throw blankets and big fluffy poufs covered in knit. Get crafty and knit or crochet your own plush pumpkins with chunky chenille yarn in several fall colors.

Add a rustic touch to your fall look with faux or real antlers. Arrange them in a basket or put them in a vase. Maybe just set a large antler decoratively on a bookshelf.
Plaids are definitely reminiscent of fall. Cover a pillow in plaid, or add a plaid slipcover to a favorite chair. Switch out lampshades for ones covered in plaid, or simply toss a plaid blanket over the back of the couch.

Be sure to include natural elements such as acorns, pinecones or dried leaves in your autumn decor. Colorful gourds are another way to go, as are twisty bare branches that rise up dramatically from a tall vase.
Whatever elements you choose, layer them. and matching textures for a warm and cozy look. Set a faux-sheepskin pillow, for example, against a throw pillow draped at an angle on the arm of a chair.
